Přednáška: Sledování (erotických) filmů: Vlákna bisexuální a transgenderové představivosti [9. 12. v 19:30]

PŘEDNÁŠKA JACOBA ENGELBERGA BUDE V ANGLIČTINĚ. 🇬🇧

Fibrous Fantasies: Bisexual and Transgender Potentialities in Screen Spectatorship

How do we experience our genders and desires when viewing moving images? In his talk, Dr. Jacob Engelberg argues that watching moving images, especially those depicting erotic fantasy, can provide us with invitations to experience our genders and desires differently. Further, he emphasises how, in spectatorship, identification and desire are interwoven, together making up the fibres of fantasy. Together, these identifications and desires, he argues, demonstrate a key potential in spectatorship that is affirmative of both transness and bisexuality, allowing us to imagine possibilities beyond both gender and sexuality binaries. With the help of various examples from cinema to pornography, Engelberg reflects on how the experience of spectatorship can help us to better understand the flexibility, changeability, and fibrousness of identity and desire.

Dr. Jacob Engelberg is Assistant Professor of Film, Media, and Culture at the University of Amsterdam. He sits on the editorial boards of the journal Porn Studies and the Routledge book series Screening Cinema. His first book, Cinemas of Bisexual Transgression, will be released with Duke University Press in January 2026.
